On my 2003 44DS I recently purchased, the Bose stereo system has been replaced by 2 DVD player (1 blue ray ) but the big black box under the seat (looks like a PC but is a sound system I think) is still installed. I just replaced the TV with an new 12volt TV to suit our region by wiring into the existing TV 12volt plug and worked great but have discovered that when I switch the entertainment switch on, on the switchboard it actually switches on an inverter to run the sound system witch some how puts 12 volt power to the TV. Seems stupid to run an inverter to run a 12 volt TV. Any one have any idea how the TV would be wired thru this sound system?

Same Here

My 2005 H44 has the same configuration. The entertainment switch on the DC panel powers up a small inverter under the STBD bench. The TV power supply plugs into the inverter and powers the TV with 12V. Not sure why it was done this way except posibly to avoid sometype of noise interference. Not at the boat right now but I recall that something else plugs into the same inverter, possibly the sub woofer which is in the adjacent bench.

I have the same system on my boat as well. To add insult to injury in order to run the cockpit stereo the Entertainment Breaker has to be on which also turns on the Inverter. I usually just reach in and switch off the inverter and only turn it on when running the Bose System and TV. The bottom line is that you can switch off the Inverter at the Inverter and still run your 12v accessories.

Hi Nodak7, my set up is a little different as I have a dedicated breaker for the stereo that work it separately from the TV, Just installed a new stereo and it works great, I did try to just reach in and turn the inverter off, but that turned off the 12volt TV as well. The 2 plugs that come out of the inverter one goes to a power board that the BlueRay player plugs into and the other heads towards that great big sound system box in the next space under the seat on that side. I will have to pull it out and find why the TV goes thru it and how the breaker marked entertainment switches on the inverter, thanks

Hi MARK14857, I'm no electrician but how does the inverter supply 12volt power to the TV? wouldn't it be sending out 110volts, I assumed that the TV must plug into the sound system and some how get the 12volts from that?

Ak, that "great big sound box" next to the inverter is the Woofer! On our boat the inverter powers the woofer and the Bose System. The TV is Powered from the Bose Box. Unfortunately whenever you throw the Entertainment Breaker that powers up the Inverter and subsequently that powers up the power sucking Woofer. So while I am running the Cockpit Stereo the Inverter and Woofer are sucking up unnecessary power. Why your 12v TV is shutting down when the Inverter is shutdown is a mystery to me.

This is basically what's happening. The 12v TV is supplied (typically) with a 120 -12 converter. This gives the TV a very stable 12v.
If you run it from boat power, it will be anywhere from 13.8 down to 11 ish volts. So, for stable 12v, an inverter was use cz
Inverters are about 80% efficient, and switching power supplies are about the same. If you had big loads, it would be worth worrying about, but not with the typical 150 watt inverters that are used to power the TV's
The big black box is the Bose power amp & sub woofer. The small cube speakers connect to it.
It only runs from 120 volts.
Hope this helps

If the 44DS and 44AC are similar you have a clothing locker on stbd side of forward stateroom. I had the occasion to take his locker apart because the TV was not working. I found a gray power supply box like those used on a laptop or printer that took the 120 from the inverter and converted it to 12 vdc connecting to the TV exactly as artboas described. The tv wasn't working because the 120volt cord to the power supply had come loose.
