I currently have a 89 Hunter 26.5. The outhaul begins at the mast as a rope and runs through the boom exiting as a cable where it connects to the mainsail. I am unable to get the outhaul to lossen or tighten. It does not appear to be pinched at either end. Is anyone aware of anything inside the boom that might prevent the outhaul from moving. The topping lift also runs through the boom but there is no problem with it. There is also run to run a reefing line which I plan on doing as soon as I can figure how to do it.

outhaul

There are blocks inside the boom to give a mechanical advantage to the outhaul. You probabaly have a frozen sheave or a knot in the line. You may have to dissasemble the boom from the gooseneck to fix it.

line stopper

It's possible you have a jammed line stopper. Check at the base of the boom at the goosneck. The stopper will have a lever, and you may have to run the outhaul to a winch to put a bit of pressure on it before you can loosen it manually.
