Hello all, This is my first post. Ive had a 1967 morgan 25 for two years. I bought it as a novice and have learned alot in the past two seasons. My question relates to the boom. There is no vang or boomkicker currently on the boat. I was wondering if they were standard on these boats or if anyone has installed an aftermarket vang. There is a lot of play in the boom and its kind of a saftey concern in my mind. As well as being important for good sail shape right? Thanks for any info- let me know if a picture would help

boomvang

D; I'm no expert, but I know the vang is a great tool for keeping the boom down during broad reaches! A kicker is a similar device (more expensive) that'll also keep the boom UP *o , thus eliminating the need for a topping lift. I don't think the vang was a standard item on your boat (or our M28OI either!), but it's a relatively simple device to rig and there's lots of info right here on this site! We have a double block at the mast step, a double block w/becket mountewd to a boom bail about 1/3 of the boom length out from the gooseneck. A simple jam cleat mounted on deck makes it easy to lock or release the vang from the cockpit. Want a picture? I'll be out sailing on Wednesday, so I can snap a few off... Jim & Barb Ocean Gate, NJ
