I want to add a boom vang to my 272. The block for the reefing line that attaches to the base of the mast interferes with the position of the vang. I believe that the 272LE has both the vang and the reefing line. I would appreciate it if a 272 or 272LE owner could explain how to move the reefing line block to accommodate the vang, and also, what vang is recommended. Thanks.

An additional eyestrap to right of mast...

...is included on my 240 for the reefing line block. The vang attaches to the larger reinforced eye at the rear of the mast base. I don't know about the 272, but the 240 came with a cheap "cruising" vang. I would upgrade to something something a little heavier for racing or just smoother performance, although mine works fine.

Garhauer

Garhauer makes a nice vang for around $100-$120 which will be a 4:1 purchase and line. Rudy at D&R Marine sells the boom vang complete. They also make a very nice rigid vang for a bit more , but the control is 100 times better than a standard vang and you do not need a topping lift for the boom.
