I have an O'day 26 1984 that is in very good condition. there is a bail at the foot of the mast. on the underside of the boom is a bracket that I am assuming is for the boom vang to hook to. It is riveted to the boom and has a "key Hole" cut in it to recieve some sort of hanger that the vang block would attach to. any ideas? is this factory? where can I get the proper piece? thanks in advance...

it is factory

Thanks for the reply, I have spoken with Rudy before, and yes it is best to call them.. I was looking for a response this weekend so that I could start on an alternate appraoch if nessacary, I did post the same question on the O'day Owners forum and a guy replyed, It is factory, a stainless ball was swedged on a short cable that held the top block of the vang. I knew what it was for just could not find the right part, I try to keep her as close to orginal as possible.

Boom Vang Attachment

I have the same type of factory vang attachment on my boom. When I called Rudy to order a boom vang I asked him if he could supply the proper fitting for the attachment. Instead of having this type of attachment he sold me a stainless steel bail of the proper size. I drilled to boom to accept the bail and I had a fine new vang attachment.

thanks steve

I have the problem solved I used a long shacle that fit in the bracket nicely on the boom, it seems more secure than the "ball" setup from the original.. see the same topic on ask o'day sailers, a guy sent the sketch of the orignial.
