Hello everyone, starting my journey to all lines led aft, starting with the boom vang.
What blocks do you like?
At the moment I have 2 vangs, inherited one from ????
So at the moment I have a Barton fiddle with Becker and cleat, not sure on the

a smaller Rondtan fiddle with Becker and cleat.

A nice sized Ronstan fiddle with Becker.

and a Schaefer double block, nice size sheaves.

so I want to maximize my options for my vang.

I do want to add a turning block at the mast base to bring the line aft.

my question is this, what blocks do you line to use for a vang?
I have seen so many different configurations out there.

Fred. You’ll not want the vang to clear near the mast if you plan to run the line to the cockpit. For a 3-1 you’ll need a Single Swivel Block with Becket on the boom

and a double on the deck with swivel.

These are Ronstan images to give you the idea. You can find these by other manufacturers. The deck swivel block must turn towards the turning blocks (organizer) leading lines to the cockpit.

The challenge will be more about releasing the tension then when needed adding tension. The blocks will tend to turn when slack. This could cause a jam and require crew to go to the mast. You will need to keep some tension on at all times to maintain a fair lead on the vang line.

If when putting in a reef or raising the sail be sure to ease the vang.
