Hello, I am considering getting a boom vang. How worth while are they? I have an Oday22.I see on the boom where a vang would attatch, but see nothing on my mast/ mast-pulpit where the lower end would go.Is this an after market modification for the '22? Any help would be appreciated. LLOYD

Halyard organizer plate

I am currently installing a halyard organizer plate from Rig-rite to my mast hinge for my 1983 23'. It should allow attachment of halyard blocks, vang, etc. See www.RigRite.com I am still installing it as I upgrade everything on the boat. CVP

Boom vang

A boom vang is a needed piece of equipment. It allows you to change the shape of the main to either power up, or depower the main sail based on wind conditions. It is also very important to give you more room for error running before the wind so you have less of a chance of an accidental gybe. When you are rockin' and rollin' downwind, and you see that boom lift up, and see and hear that nasty "thwak" as the boom comes over...well...you get the picture. use any block that you can at the base of the mast, and hook one up. You can't go wrong. Eric

mast hound

they make a piece called a "masthound" which attaches to the base of the mast and has a ring to attach the end of the vang to it. It is not an expensive piece of hardware (the masthound). And Yes, a boom vang is a very important piece of hardware on the boat which you should learn to use. best of luck
