Hi every body, hope one of you can help me out. I spent 4 months looking boats up on the net just to come to the conclusion that the boat I'm looking for was never built so I'm keeping my Mariner 2+2 even if the cabin is so small. Do any of you have a boom tent for your Mariner or do you know where I can get a pattern for one so I can sew up my own. The only reason I was looking at other boats was to find something I can stay on for 1 or 2 nights but still sailed well. Also I did not want a boat with a 400# keel to crank up and down. And after all I really like my Mariner and I have never been in a nicer sailing boat. You Mariner owners know what I'm talking about. So this winters project is to turn my Mariner into a real weekender that I can sleep on and cook eat so on. At this point any ideas would be helpfull. Rodger and Patti Mariner 2+2 Aurora IL

tent

Yes, I have a boom tent on an old style mariner & it's important for me because the boat is not selfbailing. It helps to keep the rain & dirt out. There isn't a lot of room under the boom tent, although I can move around a bit. The first thing I do is remove it when I get on board. I've never slept over, but I suppose it would provide cover. On a 2+2 there would be even less room because the floor & seats are higher since it's self bailing. My tent secures to the boat by going over the boom, then snapping onto snaps screwed into coaming on the outside. A piece of webbing ties around mast to keep it in place up front. At the stern are snaps on the tent that close it sort of like a pup tent. If you want it only for extra cover, the stern closure could be omitted. I don't know what problems the 2+2 configuration, such as hatchway(mine doesn't have one)might cause. Mine came with the boat so I don't know what it cost. Any custom canvas shop should be able to work something up. I've had to have mine restiched twice, but the sunbrella fabric has held up well.

Rodger and Patti, I too have a boom tent. Mine attaches to the rub rail with large flat hooks that are connected to the sunbrella with bungee cord through grommets. Stuart Marine (the current Mariner manufacturers) sells them for $445. Check out the parts list at www.stuartmarine.net Tell Dave that Chris from Arlington sent you. Cheers, Chris
