My newly acquired 96 H31 sails well and seems to meet all my expaectations, however, the boom appears to be slightly bowed down in the centre as if the mainsheet has been tightened by the incredible hulk for too long. Are there any more 31's out there with a similar issue.

What year H31?

What actual boat do you have here? H31's weren't made in 1996. They go from 1983-87 and there is a new H31 for 2006, but no 1996 models. Is the date or the model wrong?

bowed boom

I have a H31 (85). I don't remember the boom being bowed but I will take a closer look at mine. In any event, if it is only slightly bowed like you say, it is probably of no real consequence.

No Bend in Mine

I have a 88 Hunter 31, and there is no bend in it anywhere to my knowledge. Just left her 2 hours ago, and was working on the maine sheet.

No boom bend on my '87 H31....

Although I can see how it could happen with the purchase on the mainsheet, especially if the main was loose-footed. It's hard to see that it would be a big problem, although I'll defer to the trim experts. Robert in St. Louis, are you sure you have an '88? I thought my year was the newest :) Cheers, Bob

No bend in mine

My boom is straight as an arrow on my '86 31. I know for sure because I just removed the remnants of my main sail off of it due to wonderful hurricane wilma. I dont see how overtightening the main could have cause that, perhaps the hulk sat on it.

Finally got to check mine...

I checked my boom on the weekend. I'm sure its not perfectly straight, but there is no perceptable bend that I can see. Certainly nothing Incredibly Hulklike anyway.
