Boom rubs bimini

Catalina 22 Lake Nockamixon
Hi, this is my second year sailing and I'm really enjoying my 1981 Catalina 22 (and so are my friends. They all think it's the coolest thing ever that I bought a sailboat.)

Anyway, the one thing I'm still struggling with is the way the boom rubs on top of the bimini when I tack. This can't be good for it.

What do I need? A topping lift, a boom kicker, or the plate that covers the mainsail entrance slot on the mast so I can hike up the mainsail higher?

Any insight to this problem would be much appreciated.

Is your mainsail all the way up? Topping lift should be loose when under sail anyway. Boomkicker may help if the vang isn't too tight. Could be your mast is raked back too much also. Did you install the bimini? Cutting down the bimini shouldn't be a big deal. That's all I got.

On my C 30 the previous owner had to raise the goose neck of the boom to clear the big bimini for standing headroom in the cockpit. The goose neck was tapped & drilled abut 3" higher then stock. But most Catalinas seem to have a little extra heigth at the mast top then the main sail really needs. But while raising the goose neck will give you extra clearance at the bimini, it will make your boat heal faster and be a little more tender as your raising the center of effort of the sail higher then was originally intended. But we used to won a C 22, our second boat, & they're fun but its always good to reef early o let out on the main sheet & not push them to their limits. But the boat will just round up if overpowered anyway.
