The 27' I recently purchased came with a new 36' mast that's never been stepped.I'm having some trouble rigging and believe some things are missing.I was hoping someone had pics or input on how a similar boat is rigged. The boom has a jiffy reefing pulley system inside. Thanks

More specific?

What do you think is missing? I just re-did all my running rigging on my '78 hunter 27 well except the reefing lines, those are this weekend, I actually have one missing so I'll have to figure out how to snake that one through. My 27 actually has two reefing lines. I don't have any pics, but I have to do some for the insurance guy, what did you want to see? I only need four pictures for the insurance guy (front/rear each side) so I'll need to burn the roll off anyway. send me an email. let me know what you'd like pics of. thanks R. Paquin rpus@att.net

Sail Rigging ?

If your question is to the fore, back stays or the shrouds let me know and "ll send you a pic, if your question is about the boom riggings: On my 1978 H-27 the are three sheves at the end of the boom. The center sheve is has a 2x1 block inside the boom and is use to tension the foot of the sail (I think it's called the out haul.) The two other for the reefing system. I use the right for the 1st reef line and the left for the 2nd reef line. I have a fitting on the end of each reef line attached to the reef eyes on the sail. The lines are a sraight run through the boom to a cam kleet at the mast end of the boom. To reef you drob the sail down a little and pull the 1st or 2nd reef line tight. You then use the sail ties to control the baggy bottom of the sail. You can feed the lines from the aft end of the boom but using few hangers unbent taped together with a thin line attached to the end of the hanger and the thin line attached to the reefing line. Hope this helps.

Reef rigging.

I believe the Kenyon spars were much alike. I use a plumber's snake taped to the lines to pull through the boom. Insert the snake at the mast end, tape line on(end to end, no overlap) at boom end, and pull through. The reefing lines should go up and through the crinkle, then back down and tied off at the boom, usually at some sort of bail or bracket. This allows the reef to be pulled straight down onto the boom. I only tie in the first reef line and keep the second reef line tied to the bail. I don't like that much line flapping around on the leech. Good luck.
