Hello, I'm new to the sailing world so please bear with me. I have a new to me mac 22. I'm trying to figure out how to rig the mainsail boom. I know how to put the boom on and mainsail up. I do not know how to rig the sheets that control the boom. When I bought the boat it came with everything exept this rigging. I haven't been able to look at another mac 22 close up but it looks like there should be a double pulley on the end of the boom and then the sheets run to the pulleys on each corner of the stern? If anybody can explain this or post a picture I would really appreciate it. thanks, dh

You're right.

The V-22 is just like the V-21 with regards to mainsheet control. All ya need is a fiddle pulley to go on the end of the boom. There should be a swivel with a cam cleat next to one of the corner turning blocks. To rig it, simply tie off the mainsheet next to the turning block with the cam cleat, run up and over the lower pulley in the fiddle, around the opposite turning block, back over the upper pulley, around the turning block next to the cam cleat and through the cam cleat. You could always replace that system with a traveler and standard mainsheet system like I just did.

that helps, thanks

Thanks for the reply, I can picture it in my head now. Any idea how long the sheet is? I gotta go buy a length of rope. dh

I used a 40' chunk of 3/8's for mine.

Ya just measure how far the distance is from the portside pulley to the boom fiddle when the boom is as far out to starboard as you can get it and multiply by four to be safe because it works as a 4:1 purchase. However, you won't get full extension with that system unless the wind is over 30 knots because of drag from the mainsheets across the stern pulpit. If ya get around to putting a traveller on it later, you can sheet out to the shrouds with no issues. I tested my new system yesterday and thought, "Why did I ever wait so long...".

will cut to length

Ok, thanks for the replies. I measured it out roughly and I figure the absolute maximum is about 50' (probably less). Anyway, I got a deal on 100' so will be cutting it to length and using the rest somewhere else. thanks again, dh
