We purchased a very used 1981 Hunter 22 and have been bringing it back. We've come a long way and had it out for about a month and blew out the mainsail. When we were taking the old sail off to get a new one, the out haul or reefing line (one is cable the other is line) the cable on the mast side went inside the boom. Does anyone know a trick to get the cable back through the boom. We haven't been able to get it out all of the way the other direction to weight it through. Any ideas. If you could help it would be great.

"Fish tape"

Well, if I have the right vision of what you are trying to do, I pulled out the whole line and used a 'fish tape' that you get at home depot to pull electrical wire with. I've pulled through both a new reef line as well as the outhaul using a fish tape and wrapping electrical tape around both the tape and the actual line. I wrapped it very tight and about an inch on either side, worked great! Hope it works.

To get it out..

Hi, Can you try a coat hanger with a "J' shape on the end. Have the "J" bent more like a "V" so if you grab the cable it will wedge into the "V" like a jam cleat to help you get it toward the opening. Then a tweezers may help. Also, stand the boom up so the e cable will tend to hang down so gravity can help get the cable toward the opening. That is all I can think of. Good luck! Mark

It's easy

Buy some closeline wire at any hardware to use as a fishing line. The end caps on my boom are held by screws. Take one end off. Run the lire down the boom and pull your line through. PS I can't spell read by sound
