Mark, another idea
You don't have to go to the mast to release the topping lift. Install a deck organizer on the port side (opposite the one on the starboard side. The cabintop already has a molded-in platform for it). Install a cleat at the aft end of the cabintop ( again in a position opposite the winch on the starboard side), and you're in business. You'll have to buy a longer piece of line for the new topping lift, but you can always find a use for a spare piece of line. I have three cleats on the port side of the cabin top, one for the topping lift, one for the vang and one for the outhaul. The vang and outhaul are led to Spinlock PX powercleats; the topping lift is led to a standard deck cleat. It's easy to get fair leads to the deck organizer. If memory serves me correctly, I added two blocks at the base of the mast to get fair leads for the vang and outhaul. I also bought new line for the outhaul and vang. Now I only go forward to flake the sail or tinker with the cunningham. Everything else is at hand in the cockpit.Hope this helps.Fair winds,Tom
