I just installed a Walder boom brake vs. a preventer line, Wichard Gyb Ease boom brake and Dutchman boom brakes. Any experience, pros and cons on all of these options or others? I would like to know who installed a Walder.
Years ago on my H33 I installed a French design, a Waldor, much like the Dutchman. Loved it and it made a great boom vang. Biggest advantage was being able to tidy up the main in a rolling sea. It held the boom rock solid. Best mod to it was running a three part tackle down each side of the boat for adjustment as the tensioning line tends to pull the boom sideways. Provided great gybe control.
Happy to learn your Walder works fine. Can you please send me a photo of your three part tackle down each side of the boat for adjustment as the tensioning line tends to pull the boom sideways installation?
