Ideas, recommendations for installing a brake boom? Attachment points, considerations/cautions?

Hi Jim-I have a V32 and I wonder about ...

why you want a boom brake. Is it to help out while gybing?

A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A BOOM BRAKE...

Jim, and he swears by it. He installed his at the point where the vang connects to the boom, then ran his sheets abeam to shackles connected to the toe rail. Makes sense to me and is in my future upgrade plans. So, you have the vang, that connects to the brake, that connects to the boom. It is safer than a preventer, especially when sailing solo. Thanks. Boom brake helps control gybes

Boom brake would slow down swing of boom and help prevent going past 90 degrees and act as preventer of-wind. Biggest advantage would seem to be help preclude damae to mast under high wind/accidental gybes.

Boom Brake

I have a Woelter (sp?) boom brake on my H-45 (1986). I have a bail on the boom directly aft of the vang tang. runs to cars on the genoa track and back to a winch. Indispensible. Very versatile for more than just the accidental jibe. I have pics if you like. John Fletcher

Try your Vang

On my 376 I use my vang as a preventer (disconnect at the mast and secure outboard). Vang tension is controlled from cockpit. Its not a brake, but it will prevent an accidental gybe.
