Book on history of Catalina 30s from 70s thru 80s

Hi all, you have a wonderful forum here. My first post. I'm looking for a book or online source that shows the history of changes/improvements through the years of the CAT 30. Am strongly considering buying a Catalina 30 cruiser as my first boat later this year. I'm 65 and live in San Diego and would probably be cruising single handed on the big bay(not mission bay) and the nearby coastline, returning each night I seem to be more interested in the used 70s and 80s year/models. I'd like a diesel inboard, pedestal wheel steering, not the tall rig, won't be sleeping in it. Would like to bring my 2 cats though. I would greatly appreciate your wisdoms on these points.

in mid 91 catalina started making 30's with open sterns, which i consider a major improvement. don't overlook it.
