Bomar hatch leaks

Today and tomorrow are monsoon days here, when I got home from work I crawled up in the boat to check for leaks in the bow. I was quite surprised to find that the worst one was from the Bomar forward hatch. Not around the sides as you would expect, the water was dripping off of the hatch handles. Where the handles attach to the hatch itself is quite loose, allowing water to seep in and run down the shaft of the latch body to drip below.
These latch assembly don`t seem to be threaded so they can be tightened up on the glass, they will have to be rebedded.,i guess. Sorry no pictures, will try again tomorrow. Need to know how to get them apart without destroying them . Speak up loud and clear now!!

If yours is the plastic hatch

Precision has contracted a company to make a direct replacement. The original is no longer made. This way you don't have to modify your cabin to make it fit if you want to replace it. If you want to upgrade to the Aluminum frame one you need to modify the cabin. Mine was leaking around the edges but its so old, mine is a '88 I was nervous of it breaking while rebedding it and didn't want to replace it yet. My temporary solution was to mask off an area 1/8 " around and run a bead of black 5200 fast cure around it. So far it's held up until I am ready to tackle replacing the hatch.

Re: If yours is the plastic hatch

I don`t want to replace yet either. I replaced the one on my 18, but, surprisingly , the replacement I got from Bart fit well, had dark tinted glass and a bad-ass composite type frame far superior to the old plastic one that was in it.
My problem here appears to be the latches, loose at the glass attachment.I be getting in to them next if it ever stops raining. Thanks for the reply Tom..by the way, I just started checking out the Precision forum on the other site, seems very good to me.

Are you sure those are not the ones with the "vent" position, which leaves the hatch open just a wee bit? Winds would blow water through that gap.

Ron, today I got a close look. Hatch was tightly closed, no vent position on these. I took photos, luckily found a serial # sticker on the frame, sent email to Bomar to discuss parts or replacement.

Ron, I have a Bomar hatch that I purchased about 8 years ago that has a vent position. The problem is, I have never observed how the the vent position works. I have noticed that there are times when my hatch leaks and times when it doesn't, and I've had a hunch that it has something to do with the venting. How exactly does the vent work?

O-rings

I think the latch handles have o-rings. I can't seem to find it, but someone had a guide on how to replace. They get cracked and hard and then leak.
