Bomar hatch hinge pin

Our nylon hinge pins in our Bomar forward hatch have migrated partially out over time. I was able to easily tap one of them back in with a mallet. The other one, however, appears to be seized up and won't budge. I can order new pins. My thought was that I could possible just start a new pin from the opposite side of the hinge while it's still lined up and tap it in, pushing the old one out from the inside.

Has anyone replaced the nylon pins in their hinges and could comment on how difficult new ones are to tap into place?

I don't know if the new nylon "pins" would hold up to a pounding into a jammed pin.
Can you find an aluminum rod or wood dowel to use for pin pounding?
Also, try some PB Blaster in the pin hole. Couldn't hurt.

There isn't a big enough hammer. You need to align the last knuckle of the hinge so the pin can slide in, driving won't do it.
