Someone suggested boiling old line to soften it up for splicing. So far I tried soaking in fabric softener for a couple weeks. It helped a little but not enough to make a good splice. Then I tried boiling for a half hour the end I wanted to splice with a thimble. The boiling had absolutely no effect on the line, no improvement noted. It did make a very nice broth for clam chowder however.
