HOW Editorial

After 15 years, dozens of dealers, hundreds of boat shows, thousands of boats, and millions of posts on HOW, Jim Bohart has announced he is leaving Hunter Marine to become General Sales Manager at Voyager Marine in California. Voyager is Hunter's number one dealer with stores in Marina del Rey, Oxnard, San Francisco, Newport Beach, and San Diego. Their inventory of 250 new boats includes (in addition to Hunter) Mainship, Luhrs, Proline, Donzi, Regal, and Fairline yachts costing up to $2.2 million. Voyager was acquired three years ago by Fred and Rocky Finocchiaro. With no experience in the marine business, they have created one of the largest boat dealers in the US. Jim's experience in the marine industry would seem to be a great fit for Voyager. His award-winning boat show exhibits, creative promotions, and successful sales territories have attracted many impressive offers. But, according to Jim, "This was too good to pass up. Fred and Rocky are great, and the dealership is incredibly successful. I can't think of a better place to be." From a HOW perspective, we're pleased to get Jim to the west coast. So say goodbye to 'gators and 'skeeters, Jim, and hello to Hollywood Blvd. Cheers, big ears, and congratulations from all of us at HOW!

Sometimes Love just ain't enough

Thanks for all the support. I want to write and let everyone know that I'm leaving Hunter on the best of terms. Heck I'm representing their largest dealer, sorta of Ironic. Then why the change? Well partly because of this site and partly because of the Annapolis Boat show. Both have shown me how much I like the interaction with retail customers. I worked Annapolis and really got a kick out of selling the 50 and the work on this site was very close with our owners. I really enjoyed that more than traveling around the country for weeks at a time (something I won't be doing so I'll be closer to home and family) All the right reasons. So Voyager was a good fit high volume, multi-lines, and good people to work with. Yea, there is a lot I'll miss at Hunter the folks I worked with for the past decade plus are truely the best in the industry and most of them are close friends. But just after the New Year my next plane is L.A. bound and my wife and I are very very excited about the change in the New Millinium. H.O.W. isn't losing me though I'll be around, see ya in California and on line drop by and say, HI. JB

Congatulations and All The Best!

Jim, I know the HOW faithful, Carol and I have really appreciated your web comments. They are on target salted with technical expertise. And, they remain an unmatched wealth of knowledge regarding Hunter sailing craft. It has also been a pleasure talking with you and hoisting brews at that Annapolis Sail Shows and the Chesapeake Rendezvous events. All of us will miss you, but you are still part of the extended Hunter family of sailors. After all, we never really end our relationships with friendly sailing comrades...they just sail away. I am sure we will see you another day. All the best, Curt and Carol Morris S/V Smooth Operator H-376

Would love to help you in any way I can. My home office will be in MDR but I will be doing the sales management in all of California and if Oxnard is closest I'll meet you there. JB

Tooooooo Baaaaaaad!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new job. However, I regret that you never got the chance (well, you had the chance and blew it) to go fishing on Toucan Dream, the fishing machine. You know, I spent five years in Southern California, then returned to Florida (because of an earthquake). I then got a degree in Geology. You know what Jim? There is no way in hell that I would ever live there again after what I went through and what I now know. However, I will take the chance and visit there again and you never know when I might knock on your door. Take care and I wish you the best.

Around The Horn

Steve, Rumor has it that Jim plans to sail his 43 around the Horn to California and attempting to beat the old Clipper ship record in the process. It is also rumored that he chose the long way around because he feared Y2K issues might cause him to be trapped in a lock in the Canal, now run by the locals. A recent surveillance photo of Jim loading supplies for the voyage appears on the Photo Caption Contest page! I wish Jim a safe voyage but highly recommend sailing in a fleet of 3 boats! C.
