Hello, I like wire out there: it gives more warning of break; it is more resilient when struck; it can be fabricated with hand tools; and terminals are easier to come by. Rod, to give it credit, is more corrosion-resistant, at least in the rod itself, but we typically see crevice corrosion problems at the joints. And it is easy to kink. My favorite bobstay would be one with no turnbuckle, and a sacrificial, toggled linkplate at the bottom end. Be sure to run your loading numbers before choosing a size.
