Bob, you're making me sick : ) You've accomplished more in 2 months than I have in 2 years........ Can you give some more details on the Vetus install please? I am on the same fence you were with the 16hp vs 25hp ( been on that fence for 2 years ). Some questions I have if you'd be kind enough to answer. ( I'm actually just trying to slow you down from doing more work on the boat! ) - what was the final solution on the length of the Vetus to fit? Did you shorten the shaft? or did it squeeze in as is? - that 25hp model from that vendor, did the standard panel have a tach ( as in the picture on their site ) or was a tach an upgrade? - did the mounts extend over the inside edge a bit - did you get an exhaust riser, or just the standard down angle exhaust? If you got a riser, from where? - you did install yourself right? If not, how much was the labor to install? - what was the final answer on the prop size and pitch? - the mount widths were the same, but you had to raise the stringers, right? About 1 & 1/4 inches? - what coupling did you use? If the Vetus Bullflex, did it require an adapter? - finally, when will you be in the water to tell us how well it works?? I'm very impressed with the progress you have made. Just don't let my admiral know about it.... Appreciate your answers to this. Always nice to hear from someone who did the work on the "exact" same boat. Thanks, John

Vetus install

I installed it myslef, I don't have the prop alignment finished yet, but its real close, I had to move the motor forward about 5 inches because of the length of the transmission. but there is adequate room. There is no room for a flexible coupling between shaft and motor, and cutting the shaft woulnd't help. The motor is light in comaprison to the yanmar about 220 pounds less, The instruments have a tachometer standard equip. I had to change the shaft flange, the vetus motor coupling does not mate to the the old Shaft coupling. The width of the mounts are virtually the same as the Yanmar, but because of the 5" move forward, I had to beef up the left frame rail. I used a piece of 3/4" plywood, fastend to the rail with resin, and completely glassed over, then drilled in new studs. Its really not a lot of work. The engine is prewired, and there are two plug in cables included, so all you have to do is connect power to the starter, and alternator to battery, plus the fule lines. I havent started it up yet, cause I have a lot more wiring to do. I think it was a pretty easy install and the vetus has a two year guarantee

Vetus install, I missed a few questions

I am hopin to be in the water within a month, it all depends on how big the fire is when I finish the wiring. I have not replaced the prop as yet, bu it has to be done, the Yanmar was a left twist and the vetus a right twist. Thats gonna take a little more deliberation, but all the reccomendations os far a for a 3 blade, same dimension as the old two
