Hello all,

I am the proud new owner of a 1981 (?) US 27. She’s a bit of a project, and I’m trying to see if there is a place where I can find any kind of documents or specs on this boat. Like, where is the holding tank, water tank, what is the metal box nestled up under the forward v-berth, what os this thing under the transom screw cap, etc.

Does anyone know of any sites that wold have that kind of an archive? Or am I just going to have to completely gut her and rebuild from the inside out?

Congratulations on your new boat!

I am sure it will be a learning experience as any almost 40 year old boat will undoubtedly have many PO (previous owner) modifications over the years.

Google will be your friend, but I don’t see a lot of info on-line. Some references to Bayliner, who apparently built this boat.

Best idea is to spend a day crawling into all of the nooks and crannies, exploring every inch of the boat.

If it is a wheel steered boat the thing under the "transom screw cap" is likely an access to the rudder for emergency tiller steering.

Before ripping out every thing in the boat, spend some time learning about boat construction. While you may not find specific information about the US 27, there are only a few typical ways boats are built, regardless of the builder. Once you understand the basics of how boats are constructed and why they are constructed the way they are, you will be much better equipped to tackle this project.

Some things will be givens, a 41 year old electrical system will need a major upgrade. There is likely wet core in the deck and there are probably several leaks in deck fittings. For the most part all of this will be generic and you won't find specific US 27 parts and pieces. Most sailboats have limited production runs, so custom equipment was not used very often, off the shelf parts would have been used.

If you have specific questions ask here and provide good clear photos. You'll get lots of advice. Good luck on your project.

Evidently the design became the Triton. In any event it has a good pedigree from designer Doug Peterson.
You may chase down an owner's manual but in reality what you have is what you have. Tanks are pretty easy to find if they are still in the boat. If not then you can put them wherever suits your needs.
Before tearing everything out consider that the bulkheads and furniture contribute to holding the shape of the hull.
