Florida now requires persons born after September 30, 1980, complete a state approved boater education course before operating a boat powered by a motor of 10 hp or greater. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission publishes a free 64-page Florida Boating Safety Course called "How to Boat Smart."
