OK...so when my boat was on the hard at the beginning of the season at a distant boat yard, the guy next to me was coating his freeboard with some type of liquid wax or coating that made his hull shine like the dickens. I recall him saying that he put "a few" coats of this stuff on (seemed to go on like tire shine goes on car tires with an applicator) and that it lasted the entire season. It certainly dried really hard and beautifully shiny. Unfortunately I was too stupid to ask what this stuff was. Google searching hasn't revealed what this was. Anyone have any ideas?

There are several products on the market. Most of them are basically acrylic finishes similar to what they once used floors. They are marketed under the names like Vertglas, New Glass and Poliglow.
The knocks on the product run from yellowing and difficulty removing the product.
I would advise you should review MaineSail's process of restoring the finish before you take the plunge with these types of finishes.

FWIW- I recently treated the hull of my 340 with a very light rubbing (polishing) compound and 2 coats of Hullkote speed polish from McLube. Nothing seems to be able to stick to it, and it shines like glass. The upside is that it's very easy to apply. Just my .02.
