I can't recall where but there is another older web site using the same search engine and basis. I ran a couple of boats for which I know actual sale prices and they were both WAY higher than what this site indicates. I think the reason is this 1. doesn't use actual sales as a basis and 2. it assumes low value as there is no way to input condition which is the biggest factor in determining real value.

The NADA blue book comes back with similar numbers for the 1987 H23.. $11K MSRP, Low retail $5,060, Average retail $5,780. That was for a bone stock boat and trailer with no additional options included. The NADA site does ask for location and hopefully takes that into account, but like Don says, there is a lot of flexibility in prices due to condition which cannot really be quantified easily.. particularly on older boats like these where there most likely has been several owners and many modifications/alterations over the years. Time of year (season) also can have an impact on sales price. Best method is to simply look at what comparable boats are selling for in the area and use that as your basis. You can get a pretty good idea of what the area is willing to spend on what.

Cheers,
Brad

When looking up a boat on NADA, there is no value shown for a trailer. My understanding has always been that a trailer is a separate item. NADA have a separate area devoted specifically to boat trailers, and you would add whatever value trailer you have to the boats retail.

Also, $11K is not current retail, its the suggested list price the boat sold for new, in 1987. Average retail is $5780 and that is what an average boat of that make and model would sell for today. However, read down in the fine print where it says that a boat in exceptional condition can sell much higher.

That NADA price includes the trailer.. in the model list, the H23 has an (*) next to it.. which if you look at the model notes says:

(*)Includes the value of the trailer.

Interesting, Ive never seen that before. Thank you for pointing that out. I wonder if thats something relatively new though, as I knew a lot of different dealers years ago who all claimed it wasnt included. And looking at some other boats, even smaller boats, I dont see a trailer included. Pays to keep your eys open.

Orginally, the 23 wing keel with trailer and motor was offered for $9,999 once in the 1980's. When looking at MSRP, that stands for Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price when those boats were originally sold, not today's current price.

As for Nada, I found that sometimes they were a little on the low side but not that much and one respondent was correct alot has to do with equipment, condition and location.

Hopes this helps.
