Boat Stripe Oxidation

Not sure how old the waterline and under bump rail vinyl is.
I have tried cutting with abrasive compounds and to no avail. I have purchased Oxalic Acid (diluting 4oz. to 1-Gallon) for scrubbing the rest of the hull, but not familiar with how Oxalic Acid will affect the vinyl stripe finish.
Been through all the on- site considerations including wet sanding with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and have yet to try that approach.
Looking for some experience with addressing dulling Vinyl striping versus replacing and dealing with the adhesive removal, etc.
Thanks

Don't know Cat boot striping but mine was navy blue gel coat applied as the hull was laid up. The very first think to be sprayed in the female mould.

I cut polished it last year and it came up like new.

If your boot stripe is vinyl, it's got to go as it's too soft for cut polish.. Best thing I've found is a hair dryer and time, time, time.

Try Aerospace 303 protector on it. It will usually shine it up and last several months.

My 1987 had 30 years of fading and oxidation of the waterline stripe. When I bought the boat, I applied a product called PoliGlow - and people were asking if it was a new boat. It actually made that big of a difference - I'd highly recommend it. I've used it on my center console as well.

How long has the PoliGlow been on? I ask because I used it several years ago on another boat. It began to discolor and peel. It was a bugger to get off. It was, however, great when it was on for the first season.

On a 22 footer? Peel it off and re-stripe with a high quality vinyl. I did the double stripe on my previous boat, a Catalina 28. Hair dryer and fingernails got the old stuff off that had been on there for 25 years. It's a bit of a trick getting the new striping straight, but it's doable. Mine came out looking great.

It's actually been on since 2018, I'm embarrassed to say. I haven't hardly done anything with the boat since then due to work issues. It did start to fade in luster a bit after about a year and a few months, but has never peeled or discolored at all as far as I can see. The boat has been stored outside and uncovered the whole time. If there's a secret to the application it might be multiple thin coats. If I recall, the directions caution about too thick of a coat. I also think humidity at the time of application may effect it's adhesion, but I've had really had good luck with it. I probably had about 5 thin coats on it, just going around the boat, applying it in a continuous self-drying loop, until the bottle ran out. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling - I might be lucky.
