Thinking of storing 336 while listing it for sale. Any recommendations for a reliable boatyard in USVI,BVI or Puerto Rico. Would prefer to leave in St. Thomas. Does anyone know of a requirement by insurers to remove vessels out of a "hurricane zone".Where is this zone.Any license requirements as I am a Canadian .

Refuge in Hurricane Season

Hi, I'm also a Canadian now living in St Thomas. Usually, insurance companies will require you to either have your boat "on the hard" or out of the Zone. This is either north of 21.5 or south of 12 which means going back to Florida or Grenada/Trinidad. The option of the "hard" may not be available on all policies. Currently my policy requires me to be out of the zone from 1 July to 30 October so it looks like I am off to Grenada for the summer unless I can get the rider changed and either go to a hurricane hole (There are several) or to a yard. There is one on St Thomas Independent Boat Yard that may be able to fit you in. There is also a larger one on Virgin Gorda BVI but I don't have a name yet. If you need further, contact me at jvanrooyen@aol.com.
