Planning to bottom paint my ’98 H26. Have you had your 26 on jack stands? Is the hull stiff enough to hold the weight with say 4 stands and a bow stand? Thanks in advance.

Stands

When I had my 23.5 in the yard they put it on 7 stands, 3 per side and one on the bow. This allowed for the movement of stands to paint under them. It was very stable also.

the boat should not be supported by stands

the weight of the boat should be on either the keel or if a swing, on the center line of the hull.

Safty first...

I have a marina do my bottom paint and they don't want to be under the boat on stands. They leave it in the travel-lift while doing the work, then place it on stands for temporary storage or move it right into the water. If I were to do the work myself, I would use 7 stands: 6 plus the bow, based on feedback from Hunter and a marina. Or arrange to have the boat left in the travel-lift over night, (or weekend) to do it yourself. There are other considerations, too. You need to contain any dust from sanding of old bottom paint for environmental reasons, and you don't want to be breathing or coming in contact with the dust or the new paint and fumes during application. I feel that this is a job best left to the experienced boat yards. My 2 cents... Tom

One thing forgotten

When using stands on a water ballast boat, you need more than 4. The problem is the weight of the boat will eventually sag into the stands and you could break the seal of the water tank lid. I would use 4 per side strategically placed.
