Saturday was our first day at the boat show, of course it's great fun, one can dream can't one? We were very much looking forward to running into so many of you out there that were attending the show. But as luck would have it apparantly all of us missed each other by 20 minutes and never got to meet. I would have especially enjoyed seeing Peggy Hall. Any Woman who specializes in her area of expertise would get my attention! Later in the evening Kathy from "Kathy and Doug" phoned me saying they were there on Saturday not on Sunday as they had originally planned. There's always next year! But what REALLY put a glitch in the whole episode was visiting the Hunter exhibit, coming off the 45 CC and realizing some idiot had taken TJ's somewhat NEW boat shoes! They had special supports for extra comfort which I found laying on the dock near the exit. I'll make sure next year we both wear our oldiest nastiest shoes from now on. I hope who ever took them gets some disease from stealing someone elses Brand New Shoes!!!! Other than that, so far we liked the 48 Island Packet, I'd sell my house tomorrow and trade it in for that beauty! We've decided in a year or so to trade up and go with a 42 Hunter Passage. I will dream about new for now...... Sorry we missed you all! Laurie and TJ

Sorry to hear about the shoes...

I thought you were going to say that you fell off the boat or something like that. Glad that didn't happen. Next time, stop by a vendor's booth and pick up one of those nik-nak bags they give out. Then put your shoes in the bag and take them aboard with you. Don't wear crappy shoes. Boat shows are long events and you really need to keep your feet happy.

What a set of big B%#LS

To take a pair of shoes that you know don't belong to you. I know now I'll never leave my shoes

Hi Laurie and TJ, I hope you find the P42...

you want. Very happy with ours. We've been on Island Packets before and would still pick the P42, all else being equal. Check out the link below for lots of P42 stuff. We've cruised Belle-Vie for two months at a time and over several thousand miles in PNW waters. No regrets after almost six years. Terry http://kb.sailboatowners.com/brand?model=45

Don't assume bad intentions

Don't assume that whoever walked off with your shoes was stealing them. When walking off a boat at the Newport Boat Show last month, I saw a guy picking up my shoes. I said "excuse me, those are my shoes." He said, "I know, you're wearing mine." Turns out that I had put on this shoes (same model, same size as mine) after getting off the adjacent boat. He noticed this and followed me to the next boat. The moral of the story? Lots of people wear Sperry's. Someone may have walked off with your shoes without knowing it.

Was at the Good Old Boat on Sat

Was having lots of fun with the staff in booth. We were expecting a bunch of HOW members to show up. Warren had set us up. No one came by and I waited until 1:15 or 20. I came back later and the said about 5 minutes later people started showing up about every 5 minutes. Joan and I will be back on Monday to start buying more STUFF....:) Hi Ya'll Jim S/V Java

They were stolen...

That TJ and Laurie found the inserts discarded at the end of the dock proves somebody HAD to know they'd taken someone else's shoes and decided to "upgrade" instead of returning to swap 'em out for their own.

It was no mistake I'm sure...

.....As Peggy said the individual purposely took out the insoles which were bright blue with red bottoms. Even sticking your feet in the shoes you would have known they were not yours. They were bass shoes too! So you couldn't mix them with the sebago's etc. Oh well, water under the bridge now. Peggy we were so looking forward to meeting you, Jim you as well, after reading the post on B&R Riggs vs. Mast head riggs your sailing knowledge had shown through. Oh well as I said next year! Terry, thank you for your wishes, I realize you're the proud owner of a 42 and have numerous posts in the forum. Since we came home,TJ and I, have been pouring over the boats on yachtworld to see what's available. TJ absolutely LOVED the 420, I mean he could not stop talking about it! What I find odd is this boat (the 420) is not found in excess for resales. They are few and far between. Why in the heck did Hunter have to move the CC to the 45? They cannot be compared, the storage alone in the 420 is superior! And why didn't Hunter carry the same design into the 45? I have a problem with a master stateroom with little or no storage capacity, as well the bed being off center so when you're sleepng with your mate one of you has to climb over the other to get out in the middle of the night to p#*. Face it, it's us middle aged baby boomers spending the money on these boats, and we're not getting any younger or any more nimmble. Being able to move without killing yourself is paramount! For anyone reading this that's from the New York/Philadelphia metropolitan area, if you're thinking of selling your H420 please contact us!And....if you own a 420 and sail Barnegat Bay we'd love to come out, I promise to bring ample provisions in return for your hospitality. Laurie and TJ

JIm, et al

I think about 6 or 7 HOW/SBOers showed up at the Good Old Boat booth on Friday when I said I'd be there. I even got a call from Tom Brown who was the original poster suggesting meeting at the GOB booth (unfortunately he couldn't make it, but nice that he called). It was great to meet the people who did show and talk about....you know what: our boats!

I always wear boat shoes to the shows

and have never been denied permission to board a vessel with my shoes on. This is not airport security.

shoe less

when at the show two years ago, having just bought a new Beneteau, we were routinely asked to remove our shoes, and sometimes socks as well. Several boats (one was an Oyster) were boarding by invitation only...those of us with "only" a 36 - 38' were not deemed worthy to see the big boats. Having had show cars, and the paint rub offed in a long weekend with people rubbing it to feel the quality, I understand the need to protect the boat. But perhaps a little leeway would go a long way. As for taking your shoes, that is just wrong all around dave
