Greetings, I am in the process of trying to ship my Hunter 280 to the Caribbean. This has proved to be more costly and time consuming than I had anticipated. One of the problems I am now faced with, is the cradle. Where/how can I get one? Has anyone shipped their boat before? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Any pitfalls to watch out for... etc. Thank-you Russ

Cradle

You can find cradles advertised in the back of Sail or Sailing magazine. I have never shipped my boat though, but have seen cradles advertised there.

Hire a delivery skipper

Any competent delivery skipper would be able to take it down for you and probably at a fraction of the cost of shipping. Get lots

I agree with LaDonna

Hire a qualified delivery captain. He won't treat your boat just like another piece of freight. OR Sail it down yourself.

Trucking your boat

Russ, Shipping your boat is no big deal. Last year I decommissioned my 380 on the East Coast (Daytona Beach) and shipped it to Alameda Ca. Why are you looking for a cradle? The delivery service's truck is set up to cradle the boat for the delivery. They do the complete service (including insurance). Getting the boat down to where your going, by trucking, is fast and easy on the boat. It affords you more time to sail the waters you want. Even though I am liscensed to deliver boats, I too had mine delivered... Email me if you want specifics on trucking your boat! sail1752@aol.com Good luck, Gary

prepwork

if you can do some of the decomissioning yourself like removing interior cabin doors and wraping them in some padding there is alot of small items that can get overlooked and the more eye's looking at the job alot less will get missed.
