Greetings, I am in the process of trying to ship my Hunter 280 to the Caribbean. This has proved to be more costly and time consuming than I had anticipated. One of the problems I am now faced with, is the cradle. Where/how can I get one? Has anyone shipped their boat before? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Any pitfalls to watch out for... etc. Thank-you Russ

Insurance

Make sure that whoever hauls your boat shows you a copy of their transit insurance. Take pictures of the boat to evidence its condition prior to shipping. Can't help you much on the cradle matter, except to contact the boat hauler asking them what they use. I'm sure there are haulers specializing in these things. For every boat that gets hauled up to dealers in NE, I'm sure they must be interested in a load goin south. Contact Hunter, Catalina etc. It may be easier to get it to FL coast and obtain a commercial pilot from there for any island delivery. Jim McCue s/v Safeharbor

Thanks

Thanks Jim, I will consider your thoughts. In the midst of hurricane season though, it would have to be one crazy captain to take a 280 to St.Thomas... then again, that probably isn't very hard to find

what have you found out

Hi-happened to see your note. I am considering shipping a H27 to Fl. How do you do it - by truck or by hiring somebody to sail it? Why do you need a cradle? How expensive is the shipping?

Over-land shipping

I know, this begs the orginal question. I just finished moving my 30 ft S2 so I have some experience and prices. De-rigging - $200 hoist work - $100 Trailer
