Depends on your tastes. We had our boat's name painted on by a professional. I've seen custom decals with elaborate graphics as well. The owner of one boat told me they're common in the trucking industry. I don't know how well they last on boats. I've seen a few in gold leaf. The most common method is paint applied by someone that knows what they're doing.

you can order adhesive backed vinyl lettering from any chandlery, or just google it for online sources.

any commercial sign shop (check local yellow pages)can make your boat name and numbers for you in almost any font and size you want,they can get very creative with overlays and shadows and well as arches etc etc, They can also make your state numbers if you need them. Boat US lettering service does a good job also. I just like being able to go local and most shops will show you different font and designs on the computer before the make them so you can get a good idea of how it will look. They can also work with space restriction if needed to make it fit where you want it to go. They will come with instructions on how to apply and will be mounted on a "carrier" that you take the backing off of and apply, press the air out with a squeegee and remove the top cover.Not a difficult job to do just take you time and be careful. Most sign shops will also install for addition cost. They use a commercial vinyl material and figure on getting seven to ten years of useful life out of it before needing to replace.

The bad news is that knowing how to do those hundred little things doesn't get them done any faster, especially when the wife has her own list of a hundred little things for me to do...

WWP is a pretty boat; I've seen several on the lakes of southern NH.

They use a commercial vinyl material and figure on getting seven to ten years of useful life out of it before needing to replace.

Ours are going strong after 12 years.

I decked out my car w/ some vinyl graphics I got from Speedgraphics.net. The shadowed flames only lasted about four years and started peeling. I like the vinyl I've gotten from Edecals.com. They have a sweet set up that allows you to design your own text with about 100 fonts to choose from. This is the first year I've had mine on, so, I'm unsure of the longevity. But it came out sweet, and was easy to apply.

I have to remove old lettering that is peeling, and was wondering if there anyone had done that. it seems like the weathering would make a significant "SHADOW" of the old letters on the hull, so that i would have to make the new lettering exactly the same size and place as the old. I do intend to buff. Has anyone had this problem? How did you solve it?
