We have a 1992 Legend 37.5 and would like know what type of maintenance the boat will require as she reaches 10 years old? Any major problems that you have found? Or, do you see lots of small things needing replacement? In the past year, we have replaced the sails, hot water heater, cutlass bearing, stuffing box, and lifelines. The boat has only been used in Lake Michigan. Thanks, Mike

Looks like you are on course!

Mike: Looks like everything is on course. The next things that are apt to need service may be the engine. Exhaust hose, fuel hoses, mixing elbow, flushing of the heat exchanger. Have you had your valves adjusted on your engine (every 500 hours). How are your holding tank hoses. Most of the hoses need to be changed on the thru hulls very soon (if they have not been done). Do you have gate valves or seacocks? Obviously this stuff last a lot longer in the fresh water environment. If your boat is still out the water you may also want to be sure to lube the thru hull valves. Check out your connectors and hoses on your propane tank. Basically it seems that we get to change all of this stuff as we change another part.

Maintenance for the elderly

Seems about right, having my own set of problems, water leaks around mast, Wind instruments worn out, fuel tank feed line has air leaks, spider cracks all over.
