We are contemplating installing a boat lift for our Hunter 410 at its future location in Punta Gorda Isles, Florida. Nearly all of the boat weight will be supported by an I-beam under the keel We would like to hear from anybody who has used a boat lift for a large sail boat. Any problems? Any advice?

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the boatyard's horses and all the men... Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty back together again. If you try this powerboat type of lift on your sailboat, you may get it renamed to Humpty Dumpty by your local boatyard.

I don't think you can make it work....

with a boat lift... If you had a travel lift you might have something. On another note.... Would you be willing to briefly describe the sailing environment down there as far as conditions, anchorages, facilities, etc???? If so, my email is Steve.Chupak@avon.com Any input would really be appreciated for future cruising...

Why?

There is a J105 on a lift about 200 feet from my slip. The owner is "up North" most of the time so I can understand his motives for wanting the boat out of water. Unless you are in one of the main canals with big water flows with rising and falling tides you will not see a big problem with barnicle growth here. I have my bottom cleaned monthly and I don't have any big buildup.
