I just got my BOAT US renewal insurance for my 1988 Catalina 34. $2,226.00 that is a pretty big increase. It does have a 10% discount because no claims. But really, no claims , no Hurricanes just a Florida Address. Does anyone else have a better policy carrier? I really feel this is too much. HELP , I hate to pay this much..

WOW

Mine is $238 for a '95 24' boat. That extra 10' is like $200 a foot. Wonder where the break points are on the increases?

Terry you might want to call them back and tell them you didn't want to buy the company just a policy! That is waaay too high.

Did it go UP?

Florida is expensive for insurance, for sure. I have a comparable boat - '87 H31, insured value $26,000 - and pay about $350 for coverage from Boat US. The boat is in Ventura, California, where hurricanes aren't a problem. Is something in your policy out of whack? Maybe you have a couple extra zeroes in your liability amount? Concerned (about my coverage)

1986 Catalina C 25 Rhode Island, $256.00. Think I will call my agent and make sure there isn<t a misunderstanding. I,m seeing these $2000.00 price ranges, Has me wondering.I have Progressive Direct.

Mine is around $250 a year for a '87 Catalina 34. Hope I'm not looking at a 10 fold increase when mine's due in October. I'm with Progressive.

I have a friend with a 40' sport fisherman in a marina at Marco Island, Florida. He was paying $4000 a year for insurance. Instead of a renewal this year, BoatUS cancelled his policy and offered him insurance with a sister company. Unforetunately they wanted $12,000 a year. There was a lot of boat damage last year from the hurricanes, but he didn't have any damage and has never placed a claim. In my opinion they are a bunch of crooks.

Time to buy stock in the insurance company

$2200 per year for ten years with growth may well be worth more than the boat.

Insurance Rates

I don't think there is much anyone can do about this. I live in Katrina country and the rates here have gone up about like yours. Only way to get them down any at all is to make the deductible so high as to be out of reach. I am giving serious thought to going without, other than liability, and take my chances.

Wow

I have a Catalina 320 year 2000 ..... it is insured with BOAT/US for a $100 K replacement value and I paid $600 in February. The boat is restricted to sail only in Pamlico Sound and the C - Bay areas. Perhaps your insurance policy covers a lot more sailing ground than you need. Shop around .......... John s/v Lady K

Allstate

We have Allstate Boat Insurance. It is $892 for full replacement insurance for a Hunter 420. We went to Allstate in 2004 just before hurricane Charley and the rate was $645. We dropped BoatUS insurance that was about $1900 at the time. We had $30,000 damage in 2004 and $10,000 in 2005. One more hurricane and they will probably drop me or go sky high. nation wide insurance

I have Nation Wide Insurance for my 1997 Catalina Capri 22. It is about 300 a year. I sail in Tampa Bay. Insurance coverage is for "Gulf of Mexico". On the other hand dock rent is a joke. The city marina is charging 260 dollars for the slip I am in. It is for a boat upto 28 feet.

I called Progressive and they are not writing new policys for sailboats over 30 feet. This in Fl anyhow. I have a power boat insured with them but no deal anyhow.
