I know I know this was already talked about I think my sailboat insurance is way too high on my newer 2007 H-36 with Progressive here in SW Florida.
I am going to be looking around for cheaper if that's at all possible, looking to get some one to give me a better price for the boat, motor home,house,2 cars.
Any suggestions on a lgood company that has treated you good that have been with you are using would be helpful.

Progressive was the cheapest when I purchased my 410 in Punta Gorda in March.

I don't know how much you are paying and how much is "too high." But I have used Boat US insurance for over 30 years. In that time, I've had one claim: a boat totaled by Hurricane Isabel in 2003. Hundreds of boats were either damaged or destroyed at my marina. A qualified surveyor was assigned as my adjuster. He found more damage than I found -- and I looked hard. A decision to total the boat was made in about 3 weeks and I had a check in hand for the full insured value a week later. They arranged to tow the damaged boat away (which was later auctioned). I bought my current boat a month later. I was really impressed with how Boat US dealt with me and a boating castastrophe of major proportions. I continue to insure with them.

Had insurance with Safeco but they won't write on anything over 26 feet anymore. Now with Progressive who had the best rate I could find. I have had only one claim in 18 years for $600 after a lightning strike. That includes hurricanes Andrew, Katrina, Gustave and Ike.

If all of us had the same boat our insurance rates would be different. That said, there are probably few who search as hard as I do to save a buck without going to an unreputable supplier. I found the cheapest to be National Boat Owners Ass. I can't remember the carrier, but like Boat US you have to join for $25. $125K of insurance for $500. No one else came within $80 which is more than 10% dif.

I've been using Markel American Yacht Insurance for 14 years. Only months after signing up with them my boat was ripped from her mooring during a violent storm and grounded on a beach. The keel and rudder were replaced along with some gel-coat repairs. Markel paid the recovery and repairs to the tune of about $25,000 with no problems. I've been with them ever since.

STOP! You really never know how good or bad your insurance is until you file a claim. We had Allstate (car insurance & home owners) insurance on our boat for many years. Yes it was cheap, if you have a claim they had more excuses than a priest in a whore house.

We decided to change over to BoatUS. This was based on actual reports from sailors that had claims with them.

I would suggest that you check our people that have had claims with these companies that insure homes and cars before you decide on what insurance is really the least expensive (cheapest).

BoatUS also has an agreed upon value. Many of these other companies are going to give you "replacement value" which may be 50-75% of what it will cost to actually replace your boat with something that is actually the same as what you had.

Come on you insurance guys, tell me I am full of ......!
