According to the Coast Guard identification it's a Puerto Rica importer:

My guess is it's a European manufactured boat (from the looks of the boat in the photos - but that's just a guess) from before HIN numbers were required overseas. It took a number of years after HIN numbers were required by US manufacturers to be accepted practice outside the US.

The pictures don't give a lot away, the clipper bow makes me think of a Fiji Ketch. How long is she? What's her rig? Coach top style? Center or aft cockpit?

Are you talking about the compression block that is in the bilge or the wood in the deck under the mast. To totally different situations and both crop up on a regular basis. For the wood in the deck, I used G10 to replace the wood. I got extremely lucky in that the wet wood extended out to an area about 3/4" less than the size of the Mast Step Halyard Plate that Catalina Direct sells which is about 11" x 8". I cut out the wet wood, bedded the G10 into the void, beveled the deck back to the extents of the halyard plate and laid up layers of glass and epoxy until it was even with the rest of the deck. The end result was a solid base for the mast and the repair cannot be seen unless the mast is unstepped and the plate removed.

An importer would explain a lot! It's odd that the dates the company was in business doesn't match up with the date in the vin of 1980

It is a katch. I'm guessing somewhere in the range of 35-45'. It's hard to tell. The deck is all covered up for the winter

I don't think the 1985 date in that listing is the date of starting business... Additionally, the 1980 date may be date of manufacture of the boat. It may have been brought in after that.
