For the past two years we have been noticing an unidentifiable odor on our boat. We did not notice any bad air scents, but the cushions in our cabin seemed to be absorbing this odor. We have removed all the cushions for the winter and the odor has improved on the boat and now our garage has the same smell as the boat. We've had various people, some boat owners and some not, sniff the cushions and they all thought it was chemical outgassing from the foam. Has anyone else ever had a similar or same problem? If so what was the solution? If not, any suggestions?

stuff them in a garbage bag and use a vacuum cleaner to suck all the air out...... then when you let the air back in, spray febreeze, lysol spray or oust in the incoming air.
do this a couple times to purge all the smelly air from the cushions and then let them air out and see if it helps... I like the oust spray as it doesnt mask the odor with another smell, but chemically eliminates most odors.... you could/should probably wash the cushion covers and just treat the foam with the vacuum/spray....

How old are the cushions. Several years or fairly new. If fairly new, maybe let them air out without covers for a while.

It's that "boat" smell. I have tried everything over the years to eliminate it but it just "is". Buy PureAyre "home" or "marine" (the "home" is cheeper and just as good). It's a environmentally safe all natural (plant base) enzyme product. It works but you will not "solve" the problem. You will have to spray PureAyre periodically. Check out pureayre.com.
