Huge winds tear boats from moorings in Chicago's Monroe Harbor. If I knew how to link I would. Check out Youtube: "Monroe Harbor storm aftermath" Etc...

That is difficult to watch. Condolences to all who have suffered losses in that mooring field.

Thanks Mainsail, some day I'll take the time to learn to link.
There's an even better/worse video taken during the night when all the boats were still afloat but banging together. That video is after they rescued about a dozen. They figure there are 7 or 8 on the bottom.
I know what you mean Igetit. Hearing those hauls banging and scraping around is like nails on a chaulkboard. You can feel it in your bones!

Very sad to see boats end up that way. This is why I've always had great reservations about leaving my boat tied to a mooring. Seems like there is chafe from continuous wear that will eventually cause the single mooring line to potentially break, & then there's nothing to stop your boat from ending up like these ones did.

At my boatyard the had one of the sailboats (25'-27') recovered from the bottom. It was a crumpled mess! The haul still together but fractured everywhere. I bet there wasn't a single unbroken piece bigger than 2 sq ft. Sad!
