Ok, so maybe they are only pictures while at the dock, but we just got her, and wanted to share some photos of the new "BlueBerry", our 1988 Legend 37. Still not "moved in" yet, so things look a little bare inside. Check the link below.

She's beautiful

Looks like you got yourselves a great boat. Well maintained and unique with the blue hull. Give us a rundown on her equipment, engine hours, how you found her, etc. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Added Ports!?

I love the blue hull and the bright interior. It appears that you added at least 2 ports below the rub rail. Was any research done to determine the effect of these on strength? How much did it cost to add them and did you do it yourself? Brightening up the inside would certainly help my boat but since I do not hesitate to venture into storms on the Bay or nearby Atlantic coast (I sail when I can, not when it's "pretty"), I would not want to do it if the hull were weakened significantly. Are they fixed or openable? Looks like the one in the main salon is very close to the structural portion of the hull that joins-up that reinforcing arch, floor supports, and the two metal rods that join the sidestays to the metal grid. Did you have this plan of attack OKed by an engineer or yacht designer familiar with the original design? I would love to do similar if it is strong enough to (as they say at Hunter) "Go the distance". Regards, jim haynie, Serene Zelda, Irvington, VA 1988 Hunter Legend 37

Here I go again!

Wow! Loved the boat, looks like she is well cared for. I have a 1987 and just had the hull re-laid below water line. New main , furler , rigid vang, sheets lines etc. I had another boat with the midnight blue hull and was considering it on this boat. It looks every bit as good as I thought it would. The ports didn't seem to quite fit right on the cabin. I'm interested in the make and model of the new ports added to consider in my own plan. Thanks for sharing. I can be e mailed @ joris_hitt@hotmail.com Happy Voyages!

background on the ports

I just purchased this vessel, so most of what you see had been done by prior owner. I was concerned about the size and location of the ports, and discussed with the yard that did the installation. They had an engineer study conducted to determine feasibility, then went back to hunter for an assessment. They claim that it was given a thumbs up, and that it would have little or no negative effect on the seaworthiness. I have had other boats with ports below the toe rail, so that did not concern me too much. On the sea trials i had the port under water for a good 10 minutes or so and not a drop of water seeped through. The ports are NewFoundMetals, and are very substantial. They are opening, but with four locking dogs to keep them secure. Their design is such that the spigot has bolts that mate to tapped receivers in the bezel, so it makes a nice tight "sandwich" with the hull in the middle. The only probelm I've had so far has been with some minor adjustments of the dogs (easy to do)and recaulking under the ports. I will most likely remove and reinstall in the spring. Yes, the size and number of ports make for a very bright, airy cabin. What's funny though is that I am not familiar with the original boat, so don't know all the things that are just upgrades versus new.
