Any of the 30'-32' hunter owners do any trans atlantic crossings in their boats. I'm thinking of getting a heavier boat for those rides.

Call me nuts

I'm thinking of trying in a 27'. I hope some people post they did it. If they don't does it mean no one lived through it? haha Islandjack

Cherubini h27 is capable

But, like all production boats would need a host of mods and an excellent survey. Mods would be for: Hull Strength Rig Strength and redundancy Keeping water out ot the hull Safety Communication Liveability Stowage But the design is a good one, and others have done it. Check the archives. Blue water discussions tend to be 3 parts rant to 1 part practical advice, but the good stuff is there. There is also some good stuff in the owners' reviews. Tom Manalili's is one example. He lists modifications he made for blue water cruising on his '82 h27. Buy some books on the subject, too. The Pacific Cup Handbook, available on this site is one good one. Enjoy your h27 - we sure enjoy ours. David Lady Lillie

Blue Blue Water

Now after hearing your replies and doing as you suggest I would be suited better by getting into a folkboat (or slightly more comfortable version of the class) for sea crossings. There are modifications to apply to the folkboat but the modifications done would not so critical as might be done after the purchase of a new hunter XXX. Hunter seaworthy improvements mean (in some respects) scaling DOWN, rather than up. Making items simple to use. Adding strength to ground tackle. Safety. I'd have to spend money to get less yet remain bound to making hull changes. I guess I wish my hunter company would build a hunter boat, a machine, rather than an expensive water water trailer. I'd get another Hunter, but I probably would not feel safe riding out gales in the Blue, REALLY Blue Ocean. Even having simplified the boat the F&S keel remains. And if you have to change the fins, skegs, / rudders one might as well consider another type of boat and leave the wife / ex-wife the hunter for the channel. Just don't forget to five-finger the seacocks guys ;)
