I just bought a1996 Alubat Ovni 43 in Martinique. I'm having a hard time finding an insurer. Too old... not berthed in the US....
not surveyed by a US surveyor... etc etc. Anyone have a clue who to reach out to???

When in Rome...
When I sailed to and stayed in Europe, North-American insurers typically stopped insuring after Bermuda. I shopped around and found a French insurer for my boat. Coming back the French insurer stopped after I left St-Martin towards Bermuda. I got a Canadian insurer to cover me from Bermuda on.
There will be some small areas where you won't find coverage, however little happens in responsability at sea... land is a boat's ennemy.

Have you checked with a broker that specializes in yacht insurance?

you are not alone. Offshore insurance has been extremely difficult to buy.

We've used Gowrie Group, in Essex CT. We don't generally go far afield, but they seem to be well connected and might be able to point you in a good direction if they can't/won't handle it themselves.

I'm not advocating for this company. I know nothing about boat insurance. However, there's some explanation here, on this site, that may help in understanding long range sailing insurance.
My insurance company sent a quote that stated "NO BOX". What does this mean?
Answer:
The "BOX" is both a time period and a navigation area in the Caribbean.
The restricted coverage for the box usually starts on June 1 and ends on November 30, which is the active hurricane months in the Caribbean. The navigation area is usually between two latitude lines as noted.
Lloyd's has a long history of insuring boats across the world.
