Blue Seas Panel Instructions

I purchased the 120V AC 4 position panel from the 360 Panels series and it came with installation instructions that seemed very confusing to me. This is the Installation Manual that comes with all the panels in that series, regardless of AC or DC panels. On Page 4 is the only installation diagram that I can see, showing AC diagram on the left and DC on the right. This is the same manual that came with the DC panel that I bought. The AC wiring looks just plain weird to me and I don't understand it at all.

The AC Hot from the source doesn't lead to the common post and the AC Neutral leads don't make any sense! There is a note at the bottom that says go to the website for more info, which I did. The website provided the instructions (above) and a wiring schematic (which wasn't provided with the product).

Now this looks much better! The Hot lead from the source (ELCI Panel) looks right, as do the load side of the hot wiring. They don't show the buss bar on the wiring schematic but it does show up in the installation manual. I assume that the source Neutral will lead to the neutral buss, with all of the load side neutrals and the neutral from the panel. The wiring schematic looks more like I expected, even if it doesn't complete the diagram with the buss bar.

Why is the instruction manual that comes with the panel printed in a manner that makes no sense? Why do I have to go to the website to find it drawn the right way? Am I missing something?

BTW, the DC panel appears to be drawn ok and it matches the wiring schematic from the website. I have the 16 position panel for the DC side so it looks different than the 4 position diagram in the instructions, but at least the concept is clear. (The DC spade studs on both panels are for the backlight feature.)

Scott,

The confusion may be that AC main breakers are double pole, both the hot and neutral are protected by a breaker. . From the breaker the AC Neutral (white) can go to a common busbar. Branch circuits are single pole. DC breakers are also single pole.

This is different than the wiring found shoreside where only the AC hot is protected and the neutral and grounds share a common bus.

That may explain it ... however, the panel is sold as a 4 position branch circuits. The double pole main is on a separate panel.
Your explanation makes sense, now that I see it that way!
