Why?

What is your purpose in seeking to install a blower for your Yanmar? Diesel fumes are not explosive and the engine compartment does not need to be vented. Cooling is done by either a closed system or raw water system and a blower will not affect running temperature. If you have excessive diesel fuel smell or exaust fumes it means you most likely have a leak and need to find and correct.

Yeah - Why?

I have a 29.5 and no blower....exhaust is thru the raw water system.....works fine with no over heating problems (unless the weeds get into the system - different issue). Like Benny said - if it is diesel smell, you probably have a leak.

Heat

The blower is only to remove the heat from the engine compartment, it is not intended to cool the engine or remove exhaust. Those taskes are done by the engines exhaust and cooling sytems. When an engine is installed in the cabin and you run the motor for several hours.....(say you were going 50 miles and there was no wind), the cabin could get hot from the heat being put off from the engine. The blower removes the heat. It all depends on the placement of the motor. On my old Cal sail boat, the engine compartment was under the cockpit and did not affect the cabin with the heat, thus no need for a blower. However on my new 1986 Pearson P36-2, the engine is under the sink in a small compartment in the galley (great access) and I bet it warms the cabin after a few hours of continual running. Greg

Is Ron Dudeck out there

Ron Dudeck (who has been on this site prior to Katrina) had a 29.5 . If I recall correctly from my conversation with him, he used a cooling fan from a computer and plumbed it to exhaust the head and/or engine compartment. Can be done..is it worth it? If your seal on the ducting is not good it will only exacerbate the problem. (yeah, its spelled correctly!)
