Sailing from Mystic to Block Island. We're looking for any advise or suggestions on the trip and anchoring. Thanks.

Anchor in the Salt Pond

I was out in Block Island in July. Lovely place. There are public anchorages in the Salt Pond. Should only take a couple of hours to get there. There is an article in the latest Cruising World about Block Island. Have fun. Les Murray H20 Limerick

Salt Pond/New Harbor

When you look at a chart of Block Island, you will see New Harbor. This is also the Salt Pond. Water is deep in the center (50'), but in the NE corner is the anchorage. Be prepared for a long dinghy ride (wet if there's a wind). There are moorings for rent, but you must get there early. If you arrive later, anchor for the night and prepare to move into the mooring area as boats begin to leave in the morning. They fill up quickly. Moorings are also serviced by a launch service (for a fee).

Just got back

The advise about moving to a moring in the morning is right on (look for the lime green balls that say "Rental". Start looking at 7:00am as some boats leave early. We saw numerous open morings by 9:00am, but by 11:00 am they were all full. From Mystic to Block you will probably go south of Fishers Island and that takes you through the Race. Time it for slack tide or with the tide or you will face a 4-5 kt current. When at Block look for the boat that comes around morning and afternoon with bakery items.
