Has anyone installed a small block heater in a 2GM block by removing a frost plug? Thinking it would help on those cold starts in the spring and fall.

Interesting, but I don't think you really need it. If its warm enough to sail it is warm enough to start most Yanmars. Remember, your engine is inside the boat. If you have a reverse cycle AC, warm the whole boat.
Now if you do decide to try this, go to your local John Deere tractor dealer and see what they use for a warmer. The 650-1050 series (16-30 Hp) from the 80's were made by Yanmar and similar models may be made by Yanmar now.

There are some heaters which attach externally to the crankcase intended to heat the oil and facilitate cold starts. It perhaps may be a less invasive alternative.

I would try a couple of Golden Rods in the engine compartment. They come with clips that can be screwed into the cabinet. Easy to r/r with minimal expense.

Another option may be a dip-stick heater.
