I just removed the shrink-wrap (it covered everything down to the boot top) and discovered a mess of blisters running small to an inch in diameter. How did it happen? How do I repair it? What would a yard charge for a 37ft. Cutter? I need help. my e-mail is joelarsen@webtv.net. thanks

What area?

From the boot top to the toe rail thee are numerous clusters of blister. the only place that is free of blisters is the stern. Does that help? thanks

Has the hull been painted?

JJ: Has the hull been painted? If that is the case you may have blistered paint. With a cover over the hull you may have gotten overheated by having the wrap on the boat. I do not see how gel coat would blister above the water line and one the hard.

First step, call your

insurance company. Assuming the vessel was not painted it could have been wrapped wet thus promoting the moisture to enter through the gel coat into the laminate reacting with resin acid causing blisters. Or it could be a latent defect in the laminate schedule during construction the didn't show up until the hull was sealed. Or something else, whatever the case the insurance company should send a surveyor to inspect.

Blister horror story

At the marina/boatyard where i am we had a approx.36'powerboat across from me that the owners bought last spring. At the time they knew of blister problems on bottom but not the true extent of their nightmare.Last summer was an exceptionally wet one here in north Fl.with rain almost every day.Last fall they hauled to take care of the blistered bottom and found not only the bottom had serious blisters, but also topsides and cabin top They have putin many many hours repairing and should be done in another week or so.Brand of boat witheld to protect the guilty.[i really don't know, after all it's a stinkpot]
