Blisters in the fresh water tank

I have a 1984 Hunter 31 The fresh water tank started leaking I removed the cover and found the sealing coating was blistered and starting to peel. I get I have to remove the old coating and replace the sealing coating but can anyone tell me what to use to seal the inside of the fresh water tank??? the cover is fiberglass and the bottom I believe is Stainless. its not rusty and it doesn't feel like aluminum

I'd try and find a rubber bladder to put in the tank. I think there called flexible tanks...

But at those prices... I'd look for a hard one that fits in what you have now.

There are food-grade epoxies manufactured for the purpose of tank lining. You will need good access to the tank interior for prep and application.

We need a better description. Is the tank SS? Is the lid the only problem? Pictures?

Sounds very solvable, but we need information.

The tank is an integrated construction of the deck insert. The tank is metal although It doesn't seem to be aluminum when I scrape the old gel-coat off. The tank is blistered the lid is blistered and a structural divider and lid support is blistered. every interior surface seems to be coated with Gel-coat and I have used a sander to remove all the coating from the inside of the lid. I have used a scraper to remove most of the coating from inside the tank. I need to apply some elbow grease to finish cleaning the coating that isn't ready to pop off. I have read Interlux 2000 is a fine barrier, but they "Interlux" assures me it is not a food grade barrier.

Yeah, you don't need a bottom laminate moisture barrier like InterProtect, you need a potable water tank coating. Bark up that tree. Luckily, it sounds like you have excellent access, which greatly eases the job.

Here's a non-amine blush epoxy coating thats approved and can be used in potable water tanks:

Thank you RichH I called and talked with Larry and it sounds as though I can refinish the inside for $100.00 Larry is very confident it will do the job for a long time to come.
